Reiss Design Studio is well on its way to changing the world through it's newly implemented "Change the World" program. Each staff member is currently working with different organizations, both locally and internationally. Every project is represented by a push pin inserted into a world map, which spans an entire wall at RDS's San Luis Obispo office.

Shana Reiss is working with two affiliated organizations, ZOZU Project and Taproot Charities, which are focused on developing education in Northwest Uganda, near Arua. Shana will be working with these organizations to provide programming, master planning, and architectural design for up to four new schools. ZOZU Project currently has Solid Rock Primary School partially completed, and Shana will work with the team to look at opportunities for expansion on the existing property. ZOZU Project would also like to pursue the development of a preschool on an adjacent parcel in order to provide a better foundation for the children prior to entering primary school. In addition, there is a desire to master plan and design a secondary school (high school) on another adjacent parcel, ultimately providing a sequential educational pathway for the children of Arua.

Taproot Charities is focused on the post-secondary school education of women by supporting and sponsoring their college education. The vision is to build a women’s technical school that will provide learning opportunities and teaching opportunities for the graduates. Shana will be working with the Taproot team to identify an ideal site and design the school to support the needs of the organization. Taproot is a continuation of the sequence for young women of Arua who choose to pursue higher education.

Shana has designed preschools, primary, and secondary schools in Africa, and is looking forward to the opportunity to create a linked continuum of schools for the children of Arua. She hopes to inspire lifelong learning, creativity, and hope through the design of the buildings and campuses.

Needless to say, we at Reiss Design Studio are all very excited about this opportunity to change the world, one project at a time! Stay tuned for other staff members' profiles of their projects!!
